The Rapid Growth of the Internet

We love the Internet and everything that it does for us. We love being able to do our banking on our mobile phone, we love catching up with friends on social media and we love being able to research information quickly. Perhaps we don’t love all of the emails that we get sent but hopefully, the new GDPR law will help to improve that for us!

There are so many things that we can do much quicker now that we have easy access to the Internet. Everyday tasks like doing the grocery shopping have become so much easier through either Click and Collect or ordering delivery online. Paying bills, buying new clothes, even monitoring your health and household energy consumption is possible with a few clicks of your smartphone. It would be hard to not have noticed how much the Internet has grown and changed our lives but sometimes we probably take this for granted. We probably don’t fully realize the impact that it has had but this amazing infographic sums up what makes the Internet so great and how big it has grown.

Some of the key statistics and facts that really stand out include that there are now more people that are using the Internet in the world than there are not using the Internet in the world! Or in other words over half of the world’s population are now Internet users. In terms of social media, Facebook has over 2.2 billion monthly active users! 91% of social media users are using their mobile phones, tablets and smart devices to use the channels. In total there are over 3.1 billion social media users worldwide, as recorded in 2018 – an increase of 13% compared to 2017.
